We hope to see you all there!

Smalltalks is the conference that the Fundación Argentina de Smalltalk (FAST) organizes every year. For three days, people working with Cuis, Pharo, Squeak, VAST and GemStone show what they have been building, compare ideas and meet in person. Attendance is free.

Cuis in the program

Wednesday 14

What We Talk About When We Talk About Software, by Juan Vuletich, creator of Cuis: a review of why and how we build software, now that AI is changing the practice.

Claude Code does not program, by Hernán Wilkinson: the results of developing several projects with Claude through a Cuis MCP, measuring token consumption and design quality.

Building a simple MCP server in Smalltalk, by Facundo Javier Gelatti: a minimal MCP server built live in Cuis.

Thursday 15

Is it true, or True? An exploration of singular objects, by Facundo Javier Gelatti: objects like
true
, and one way of implementing them in Cuis.

Advances in Smalltalk Portability: OpenSmalltalk on Android and JavaScript, by Agustin Martinez: the port that runs Cuis and Squeak on Android devices.

Applied Research in Cuis Smalltalk, by Hernán Wilkinson and Lisandro Almonacid: the master theses at the University of Buenos Aires that keep improving Cuis, from new refactorings to code undo/redo and automated UI testing.

Friday 16

Powerful Ideas Behind Cuis Smalltalk, by Juan Vuletich: the ideas Cuis adds to those of Smalltalk-80, like a UI built as a nested tree of local spaces, signal processing for anti-aliasing, and efficient Unicode text handling.

From Sockets to TLS in Cuis: A Cross-Platform FFI implementation, by Felipe Zak: FFISocket and the OpenSSL package built on top of it, running on macOS, Linux and Windows.

The full schedule also includes a GemStone workshop, a debate panel on AI and Smalltalk, and a social dinner.
